In a resort known for hundreds of thousands of vacationers basking in the sun, eating Thrasher's Fries and enjoying the fun yet, daunting task of picking steamed Maryland Blue Crabs, one wouldn't really think a Japanese would be a must have commodity. I've eaten there twice, once on New Year's Day and again this weekend. Both times, service was friendly and prompt, but the place was never busy. Granted both times were early, their opening time of 4pm. Sakura has been my first and only Hibachi experience, and I must say I enjoy it. It's fun, the Hibachi cook is cheesily funny and talented, and the food is very good! The Hibachi experience is probably best shared with a group of people you know, otherwise, be prepared to sit with 4 - 8 complete strangers... and if they aren't into having a good time, then your experience may not be as good as it could have been.

Went here for sushi and teppan grill. Probably one of the worst meals at a Japanese steak house I have had. Granted this falls directly on the chef and not the restaurant completely but I cannot rate this more than 1 star. Sushi was ok. Nothing to write home about. It was pretty pricey as well.

First time I started here I enjoyed a good sushi and sashimi lunch with my mother. Service was quick because it was to beginning of the season. We was the only one in the sushi area. The five other when where they make the food in front of you. It was nice. We came here on a off season and found they didn't serve sushi on the off season. Then it was ok. So we decided in getting Tempura instead. We found they did serve Tempura on the off season. A Japanese place that don't sell sushi, sashimi, tempura is not japanese restraint. It a american japanese it self. I very unhappy and will not go here again. For being a summer town they can get away with it.

we at here once when we were in ocean city on vacation. the service was okay, we were seated promptly. we had lots of food to eat, we were totally stuffed. I'll agree the food was alright, it cost 10.50 per person (for a buffet). it was in the upstairs of another business. Sakura Japanese Steakhouse is great all you can eat restaurant, and the price is decent compared to some of the other restaurants in the area. the chef made a special roll at our request for a few dollars tip.

Neat experience and pretty entertaining. Food was awesome. Waitress brought us the wrong mixed drink though and I was disappointed that the sushi bar was closed at 6pm on a Saturday and they weren't serving any sushi at the table since it was the main reason we went there. Overall, great food and a fun time. The kids at our table really seemed to love it and have a great time. You'll sit at a table with about 10 other people which is fun but awkward if you're not into that. Prompt service and not crowded, even like I said at 6pm on a Saturday.

Went there to get some takeout sushi. Shocked at the prices but thought it must be top shelf at those prices. Got it home and we were very disappointed in the quality. Tasted old, dry, not appetizing at all. We recently moved here from an area where the we're heart sushi restaurants and bars. New York. Not to be snobby at all but k the food simply did not taste fresh. Tried to get sushi here during the winter and was told they only have sushi in the summer. That should have told me immediately that this place fits not pride itself on its sushi. Bottom line is that we found better places to get our sushi fix.

i rec'd an email from the general manager for sakura apologizing for our experience. he asked for my address and sent a gift card to come back. we did, and the food was excellent and the service was very good this time. it was very much appreciated as sakura is really one of my favorite restaurants to go with a group of friends.

I ordered the sashimi, and my friends had the hibachi. He waiters and waitresses were very nice, and so was the chef preparing my friends food. Everything was absolutely delicious and I will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Worst service ever! We found this place on our way back to DC and decided to give it a try since we had good experiences at the Tyson's Corner location. We were the first people to be seated at the table, served tasteless miso soup, then had two girls seated at across from us, and shortly thereafter, the hostess squeezed a large, overweight family in between us making for tight, uncomfortable seating arrangements. We watched the chefs serve three other tables and the other people at our table served appetizers and eat. Everyone had been finished for about 10 minutes. We were all staring at each other and I realized my family and I had been waiting over an hour for a chef to come to our table! I finally got the waitresses attention and let her know how long we had been waiting. She interrupted me and said he would be right out, but didn't even apologize. By the time the chef came out, we had to hit the road. We told the chef we had to leave and he said, "I don't care, we have enough customers. We don't need you to eat here!" My husband and I were shocked and appalled! We went to complain to the hostess and pay for our drinks, soup and salad, and she interrupted us to answer the phone. She talked on the phone for about 5 minutes until we interrupted her and told her if she didn't give us our check right then that we were just going to leave without paying. She then just told us to leave. Seriously, this was the worst service we've ever experienced! If you're trying to make it back to the Baltimore/DC area at a decent hour, then don't stop here!

My family (from northeast PA) has a 33-year tradition of spending at least one week in Ocean City, MD every year. I've missed quite a few as an adult, since I relocated to LA 15 years ago. Our sub-traditions in Ocean City have changed over the decades...where we stay - from a motel near the boardwalk, to a condo at 73rd Street, to a house in Ocean Pines, and back to a condo at 43rd Street. Where we shop....from Shantytown (no more!) to 45th Street Village (half gone) to South Moon Under. Where we eat (and drink)...from Phillips to Seacrets to Fager's to Sakura to the Green Turtle. As Ocean City has reinvented itself, so we have reinvented our traditions over the years. I don't know how long Sakura has been at its location, but I think it's been at least 6 years. My brother's birthday week is usually the week our family goes to O.C., and Sakura has become our celebration spot for his bday dinner. I think it is nostalgic for my family...we grew up in Scranton, which was not exactly a land of multicultural dining (I recall one fine dining Chinese restaurant, one Mexican restaurant and a Japanese restaurant that was called "Robata and Sushi." It was teppan style cooking, and it was an exotic experience for us kids to go and be served Shirley Temples in Buddha mugs by kimono-clad waitresses and to have the table engulfed in flames without burning our dinner one bit.) So perhaps nostalgia gives me some bias...but, that aside, I have always found Sakura's service to be prompt and polite, and the food fabulously prepared (and consistent.) On my last trip, I had the scallop and filet mignon combo. As much as I love beef, the scallops were the star. Beautifully, lightly seasoned and not overcooked one bit. Juicy. Mmmm. Chef didn't flinch when I ordered my filet rare either. Mom glared at me (the I-wish-you-wouldn't-do-that-do-you-have-a-death-wish look.) But then she likes meat well done - aka burnt -- and she 's also horrified by sushi, so she wasn't keen to watch as I scarfed my yellowtail hand roll down either. But our lovely chef gave me exactly what I wanted. (I wish restaurants would stop worrying about pink = food poisoning = lawsuit. Gimme a damn waiver; I'll sign it and indemnify you to get my meat served rare. I'm working on getting my appendix up and running again!!!) I also got a wild hair up my @$$ and tried their chicken liver appetizer (NOTE: I have always hated liver, but like most foods I hate, I make myself try it again every few years to see if I can learn to appreciate it.) While I wouldn't have eaten a massive portion, I confess they were very tasty - I chopped them up like giblets and scattered them in my fried rice, and wow, stunningly savory and yummy. The only downside of Sakura (in my view) is that while they have a full bar, I'd recommend sticking to simple cocktails. Watching my mom try to explain how she'd like her bourbon Manhattan prepared to the blank-faced bartender was somewhat amusing. I opted for bourbon on the rocks and fared better! Bonus points to our chef who got all 3 of our party's tables to serenade my brother with a very loud happy birthday. One caveat...majority of staff are not Japanese (and tips are mandatory for large groups), so if you're a nut for authenticity, or spent a decade in Japan, well...buzz off.

Got the vegetarian hibachi but got stuck with the worst cook who chit chatted with locals the whole time, food was barely mediocre and service was the worst ever. not sure if there is a better place in oc but would venture to try any other place. if u r looking for asian food there is a fabulous thai place way up near 50th street.

No complaints on flavor because the food was very good. Soup, Salad and Fried rice was very flavorful. My filet mignon was simply delicious. Cooked to Med-rare perfection. The only complaint is that the portions are very small. Pretty disappointed since I didn't order a combo. Our chef was entertaining.

Yum yum sauce perfect! Always a favorite place to eat when we visit Ocean City. Entertaining for the kids while exciting for the adult.

Went for lunch and was surprised at the small portions. Ordered a California roll that has no eggs on it. Came to table with nasty fish eggs wrapped inside. Service was horrible at best. Store was 15 minutes late opening. Chicken and fried rice portion was extremely small but tasted well. They need more training.

The atmosphere of dining was great. The chef was entertains. The food was delicious ,but as others have stated we were in a nearby bathroom,as the dinner went right through our body. As we talked to others they had the same experience. Beware, and made sure a restroom is nearby. The atmosphere Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.

A fun experience with the chef cooking your meal at your table. They use fresh quality ingredients and a good serving size. The downside is everything is cooked together and taste the same. Unfortunately our chef tonight was in a bad mood and it took over an hour to get started. We come here every year and usually the service is much better. This place deserves a four star but not until mgmt works out the logistics.

I like this place but my family does not. They say eating here makes them run to the bathroom immediately after. I say that's in their head. I don't know. Sakura is alright in my book. If you want sushi, I'd go with OC Wasabi over here -- but it's a solid Hibachi joint.

We returned last night after not visiting this place in a while. The chef was entertaining and the food was good for the value. I thought the prices went up since the last time we visited. However the portions you receive certainly are more than enough to make you full. I had the filet and scallops. Steak was decent but lacked flavor. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The veggies and rice were awesome. My wife had the filet and chicken. She said they were both great. Overall I would certainly go back again. I recommend going with a group of friends or family. It just makes the experience with the chef more entertaining.

I've been to this one three times. Once when I went to OC with my Best Friend, second when me&my mom went to OC for my birthday, I took her for mothers day, and third when me&my boyfriend went to OC for our one year. He's never been to Sakura before&I knew he would love it. &Of course, he did. Our chef was okay, not the best. But he wasn't the worst. Everything was delicious, shrimp was a lil over cooked, but scallops&filet were perfect. I've never really liked the soup or salad, but it was okay. Salad is better...but I don't like mushrooms. Haha. But the vegetables they make are also, AHHHmazing. I'd go back again&again for the experience&amazing food.

We ate lunch at Sakura's in Ocean City soon after we arrived. All I can say is our Chef "Ronnie" is a young skilled artisan! And his creation which was our lunch, was yummo!! Will be back again for sure!

I've only had the sushi here. It's wonderful. I think they only have sushi for part of the year. I wish they would have it all year round. You can get the sushi take out. All the fish we've had has been excellent. Some of it (like the Toro) is often locally caught that day - yum! The proportion of rice to fish in the rolls is perfect. The rice is beautifully seasoned. The salmon is deliciously rich; the quail egg on tobiko is dreamy; the yellowtail is some of the best I've ever had and the salmon skin roll is fabulous. The chef takes his fish very seriously. I recommend the take out because there is nothing like eating sushi on the beach.

This is truly a pleasure to all of your senses. Kids, you and and old alike will love to come here. To have their chef's prepare your meal in front of you is very entertaining and exciting. Not to mention they try to toss food for you to catch in your mouth. Their saki martini isn't bad either!
